Former President Donald Trump appears to be riding high on momentum heading into the November election following his highly praised debate performances, President Joe Biden’s request to withdraw from the election and a series of Supreme Court rulings.
President Trump, who has faced numerous legal and political challenges since leaving office, appears to have had one of his best weeks of the 2024 campaign with just five months left until voters head to the polls.
Trump’s debate performance
Critics widely praised Trump’s performance in Thursday night’s debate as disciplined, well-prepared, clear and articulate. Trump repeatedly attacked Biden for his open border policies, immigrant crime, rising costs and failed foreign policy. Biden and his shaky performance appeared to close as the biggest story of the week, something the Biden campaign seemed to fear: Democratic political pundits suggested before the debate that the election should be about Trump, not a referendum on Biden and his policies.
