Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said on MSNBC’s “Inside” on Sunday that former President Donald Trump didn’t love America.
“You know the controversy has erupted over comments that Mr. Trump made about Milwaukee, the site of the Republican National Convention later this summer,” said host Jen Psaki. “He’s reportedly called Milwaukee a ‘bad city.’ He’s called Washington a ‘filthy, crime-ridden disgrace.’ He’s called Chicago ‘worse than Afghanistan.’ He’s called Baltimore a ‘rat- and rodent-infested filthy city.’ These are American cities. What do you think of what he’s said? What caused it?”
“That’s the spirit of this man. This man does not love America. He’s insulting and degrading some of the places we cherish and love most. He’s insulting and degrading the people who live there, the people who are dedicated to teaching in our schools, our firefighters, our police officers, our civil engineers,” Booker said.
He added: “Cities across America are rising up, businesses are coming back to their downtowns. It’s a really exciting, hopeful story. We don’t need a president who is going to undercut us, who is going to knock us down, who is going to set us against each other, who is going to degrade people and places. It’s just disheartening to see one of the major political parties elevating someone who doesn’t celebrate America. The rhetoric of Ronald Reagan and George Bush. I mean, they were about celebrating this country, elevating this country, seeing this country for what it is.”
