President-elect Donald Trump endorsed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) on Monday morning, after leaving Johnson to the wind for 11 days.

At the last minute, he endorsed Mr. Johnson as speaker, using boilerplate endorsements.
We must not waste this wonderful opportunity given to us. The American people need immediate relief from all of the previous administration's destructive policies. Since December 19, when Prime Minister Johnson failed to fulfill President Trump's desire to raise the debt ceiling as part of a government spending deal, President Trump has left Johnson with the screws. Reports of Mr. Trump's outburst at Mar-a-Lago, combined with Mr. Trump's silence amid mounting criticism of Mr. Johnson, raised questions about Mr. Trump's commitment to Mr. Johnson.
Only Trump's support could save Johnson. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has vowed not to vote for Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Johnson could retain the gavel by losing just one additional vote in the House.
But Trump's support may not equate to salvation. Other Republicans who have occasionally opposed Mr. Trump, including on Dec. 19 on votes to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling, have also expressed displeasure with Mr. Johnson.
Johnson did so immediately. tout Support of President Trump. Echoing President Trump's message about the need to hit the ground running in January.
The January 3, 2025 vote will be a roll call vote. The House must elect a speaker on January 6 to certify the election.
