Donald Trump, Kamala Harris Running Neck and Neck in Virginia

Polls show that former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are in a close race in Virginia, a state that leans heavily Democratic.

Among 756 voters surveyed, Harris has a slim lead over Trump, 48% to 46%, with the remaining 6% either undecided or saying they support another candidate.

The race between the candidates has become more competitive. The poll was conducted from Sept. 3 to 9, and included Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent who suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump, on the first day of voting. He was removed from the question on Sept. 2.

Among registered voters, Trump and Harris were tied at 44%. Kennedy received 2% of the vote, while Jill Stein of the Green Party and Chase Oliver of the Libertarian Party both received less than 1%. Five percent were undecided.

Among likely voters, Harris and Trump are neck and neck at 47 percent and 46 percent, respectively, with 2 percent voting for Kennedy, 3 percent undecided and 2 percent preferring another candidate.

Virginia has voted Democratic in the last four presidential elections. The poll also shows a tightly contested Senate race between Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), the 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee, and Republican Hung Kao, a retired Navy captain.

Of those likely to vote, 49% support Cain and 43% support Kao, while 2% plan to support another candidate and 6% are undecided.

The margin of error for registered voters is ±3 percentage points, and for likely voters it is ±3.5 percentage points.
