Donald Trump On J&K Attack

Aboard Air Force 1:

India and Pakistan will understand its relationship with itself, US President Donald Trump said on Friday that tensions have skyrocketed between two neighbouring countries after the terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahargam.

Speaking to Air Force 1 reporters, Trump said he knew the leaders of both countries, citing the area’s historic conflicts and that he didn’t answer when asked if he would contact them.

“They’ll get it somehow,” he said as they traveled on the plane. “There’s a huge tension between Pakistan and India, but it’s always there.”

On Tuesday, 26 men were killed in a tourist spot in Kashmir and shot dead in a pasture. India has said there is a Pakistani element in the attack, claiming Islamabad is denial.

Relations between the two South Asian countries have deteriorated in the days following the attack, with India putting aside the key water-sharing agreement and Pakistan closing its aerospace to Indian Airlines. Their trade is also at risk.

On Friday, Indian stock markets fell in fear of new tensions as Indian authorities searched for terrorists in the region before the market recovered some losses.
