Former President Donald Trump has overtaken Vice President Kamala Harris among independents, according to the latest weekly survey conducted after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois. economist/YouGov was found.
investigation asked The survey asked respondents, “Who do you plan to vote for in the November 2024 presidential election?” and offered options of Trump, Harris, independent Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Notably, the survey was conducted after independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the race and endorsed Trump.

Overall, Harris, who many believe is coming to the end of the honeymoon period of her campaign, leads Trump by two points, with 47% to Trump's 45%. Notably, she led Trump by three points the week before.
Stein received 1 percent support, West received zero support, and 5 percent overall remained undecided.
As expected, Trump leads among Republicans and Harris leads among Democrats, but Trump has regained a solid lead among independents, with 42% backing him and 37% backing Harris, a difference of 5 percentage points.
This reflects a slow rise in Trump's support over the past few weeks. Harris initially led with independents, but three weeks ago they were both tied at 36%, before Trump took a one-point lead the following week. Last week, the two were tied at 38% with this group. In other words, after the DNC and Kennedy Jr.'s withdrawal, Trump's approval rating among independents has risen by four points in the last week alone.
Another 2% of independents chose Stein and 1% chose West, with 2% saying they would not vote if given those options, down from 6% last week.
It's worth noting that this poll came shortly after both West and Stein urged Democrats to “dump Harris” at the Democratic National Convention.
“If Democrats think they can enable genocide and act as if they have moral authority, they are living in illusion and self-deception,” West said, referring to the Palestinian liberation movement.
Asked if he was calling on Democratic voters to abandon Harris, West told Breitbart News, “We're asking for more than that.”

Among independents, 13% said they “don't know” who they support, up from 9% who did so last week.
The survey was conducted August 25-27, 2024, among 1,555 U.S. adults.
The DNC clearly failed to generate enthusiasm and support for Harris.
During the convention, Stein said she was especially grateful to “Abundan Biden, and now Abundan Harris,” for “their incredible courage, their vision, and their unwavering commitment to stand up and lead, not only to stop genocide, but to hold the highest office in the country and to hold the White House and its occupants accountable for genocide.”
“Don't think for a second that the Democratic Party is the answer to fascism,” she said.
“More precisely, this is the cause of fascism. Why? Because the Democrats have pushed this agenda – the so-called neoliberal agenda of privatization, austerity, massive tax cuts for the super-rich and endless war,” she added.
