Donald Trump to have bulletproof glass at outdoor events going forward

Former President Trump plans to install bulletproof glass around the podium at future outdoor events, a federal law enforcement source briefed on the plans told Fox News.

Meanwhile, indoor events will not have the same level of protection, sources confirmed.

The extra level of security comes after the former president was nearly assassinated during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month.

Just minutes after the president began speaking to the outdoor crowd, a gunman opened fire on him from the roof of a nearby building.

Trump barely had time to turn his head and duck under the podium, and just seconds after the shot was fired, a Secret Service agent shot and killed the gunman.

Trump was hit in the ear but escaped serious injury. One spectator was killed and two were injured.

The security blunder has brought increased scrutiny to the Secret Service, which was responsible for coordinating with local law enforcement.

Anger over security lapses grew when it emerged that the shooter, later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, had been identified by police as a suspicious person an hour before the rally was to begin but was subsequently missing.

Crooks climbed to the roof of a building owned by AGR International, a supplier of automated equipment to the glass and plastic packaging industries, and fired an estimated eight shots from an AR-15-style rifle.
