Donald Trump ‘Unhappy’ with Mike Johnson After Spending Fight

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told reporters Friday that House Speaker Mike Johnson's best chance of keeping the gavel is to allow House Democrats to vote for him. .

Without a single Democratic vote, Johnson can only lose one Republican in the House. Up to 25 House Republicans could vote against Speaker Johnson, the House Republican leader. said Matt Boyle of Breitbart News.

If Democrats, along with some establishment Republicans, allow Johnson to remain speaker, he would be able to enter into a power-sharing agreement with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Democratic leaders will demand something from Johnson in exchange for Democratic votes.

A power-sharing arrangement in the House of Representatives appears to be unfavorable to Mr. Trump, who won the election in a landslide and is implementing his own policies.

Under Mr. Romney's scenario, Mr. Johnson's chairmanship appears to be in an untenable position. Mr. Johnson either accepts the Democratic vote and remains chairman, overruling Mr. Trump's mandate and infuriating the Republican base, or he does not run for re-election.
