Donald Trump wins most popular votes by a Republican ever

He won beautifully.

President-elect Donald Trump has received the highest number of popular votes ever for a Republican presidential candidate, according to predictions for the 2024 election.

As of Sunday morning, Trump had received 74.65 million popular votes, surpassing the previous record of 74.224 million votes cast in the 2020 election. According to the Associated Press.

That number currently puts the president-elect ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris' 70.9 million votes, but there are still a significant portion of votes yet to be counted, including in California, where an estimated 66% of votes have been counted. .

Other states, including Alaska, Arizona, Maryland, Oregon and Utah, still have outstanding votes. It is estimated that there are approximately 5 million votes outstanding.

Republicans haven't won the popular vote in a presidential election since 2004, when President George W. Bush won 62 million votes.

Ronald Reagan won 54 million votes in a landslide in 1984, when the country's population was 100 million fewer than it is today.

President Biden still receives the most popular votes of any presidential candidate in U.S. history, with 81.3 million votes for him in 2020.

Trump, 78, won all seven swing states, winning the electoral vote 312-226. This was the largest victory since then-President Barack Obama won 332-206 in 2012.

For context, Trump won 304-227 in 2016, and Biden won the Electoral College 306-232.

Republicans have retaken the Senate and are within range of holding the House of Representatives.

Soon to be the 47th commander-in-chief, he becomes the second president in U.S. history to win a second non-consecutive term, following Grover Cleveland.

President Trump is currently working to increase the number of personnel for his second administration. On Saturday, he announced that former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not be sent home.

The two faced criticism from the MAGA base for their hawkish foreign policy views and past criticism of Trump.

The president-elect is scheduled to meet with Biden at the White House this Wednesday.
