Travis and Jason spoke about their childhood and their parents’ relationship in the sports documentary Kelce, which was released on Prime Video in 2023.
“I knew my mom and dad’s situation was different than other parents,” Travis said in the documentary. “I went to sleepovers at other houses and the other parents stayed in the same room, but my parents didn’t stay in the same room.
“We started connecting in middle school and realized we were probably going to break up. But I think they stayed together for my benefit and Jason’s.”
Ed explained in the documentary that he and Donna made sacrifices to force their sons to find and follow their passions.
“If we had separated, which is probably what we both wanted, it would have been a logistical nightmare to get the kids where they were and provide all the support,” Ed said.
Looking back on those days, Donna said, “It was tough,” as she was balancing child-rearing.
“When you’re a parent, you’re just trying to hold everything together,” she said. “It’s tough.”
Donna previously explained on an episode of her sons’ New Heights podcast that she was actually planning on going out for drinks with another man when she ran into Ed at a bar in Cleveland.
Donna said the two “talked forever” and never went to see the other man.
Donna and Ed are regulars at their sons’ games and events, most recently attending the first live show of their podcast, “New Heights,” in their hometown of Cincinnati last month.
