Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Possibilities Remain Open
ESPN’s insider Shams Charania hinted that a trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t off the table. During his appearance on “Get Up” on Thursday, he noted that the two-time NBA MVP is evaluating the Milwaukee Bucks’ offseason moves as he considers his future with the team.
“There are a lot of factors to consider,” Charania stated regarding Antetokounmpo. “He’s been with the Bucks for 12 years, so there’s this investment he has in seeing how they perform during draft week. Can they make significant improvements with their decisions?”
He expressed that Antetokounmpo’s ambitions revolve around competing for championships. “The Bucks need to consider what they can do to keep that competitive edge. His future isn’t tied to the draft or free agency. If something changes for Giannis, it might not happen until later in the summer.” It’s been quite the journey for the Bucks, as Antetokounmpo has faced tough exits in the playoffs recently.
Back in mid-May, Charania mentioned that Antetokounmpo was “open-minded” about potentially leaving Milwaukee. However, a colleague of Charania, Brian Windhorst, has suggested that a contract renegotiation for Antetokounmpo might not be as likely as some may think.
The Bucks have won only one playoff series since claiming the NBA title in 2021. Amidst all this, many are speculating that Antetokounmpo might seek greener pastures as he approaches his 30s.
Interestingly, the Bucks are dealing with the absence of All-Star Damian Lillard, who suffered an Achilles injury during the first round of the playoffs.
Moreover, several teams, including the Knicks, Nets, Warriors, Heat, and Spurs, have shown interest in the nine-time All-Star.
