Marc Short, an adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, said Wednesday on MSNBC's “The Jose Diaz-Balart Report” that President-elect Donald Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, should not be underestimated. Ta.
“While the approval process for some of our appointees will take a long time, I do not intend to underestimate Pete,” Short said.
He continued, “Pete served for 20 years and was twice awarded the Bronze Star Award in Iraq and Afghanistan. I met him when he was running Concerned Veterans for America. I think people are underestimating Pete too quickly, but I think this is a welcome change for a lot of people who want change in the Department of Defense. ”
“The number 53 is certainly a big cushion for Republicans,” Short said. “In 2017, it was 52, but with McCain's tragic illness, it was down to 51 by the end of the first year. So, going from 51 to 53 may not sound like a big deal to many viewers, but even losing a couple of defectors doesn't mean much. , if people can still get approved, that's important. And I think there will probably be additional picks, so I think that's accurate at this point. We don't want to underestimate Pete. I think he will represent himself well in his confirmation hearing, so let's let it play out.”
