NEW YORK (AP) — Doris Kearns Goodwin, Laurie Anderson and Harlem School of the Arts Dean James C. Horton will be honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

American Arts Academy director retires after 27 years
The Academy announced Friday that Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, won the Gold Medal in Biography. Anderson, a renowned avant-garde performer, will be awarded a gold medal in the music category. Mr. Horton, who has run the famous Harlem School since 2022 and has been involved in education for decades, has been praised for his “significant contributions to the arts.”
All three will be presented with awards in May, when the Academy officially welcomes new members, including Oscar-winning composer John Williams and novelist Alice McDermott.

Founded in 1898, the Academy of Fine Arts is a prestigious organization with 300 core members and awards numerous awards and grants each year.
