Double stabbing at Virginia technical school leaves one victim dead; police kill attacker

An armed man who stabbed one person and seriously injured another at a Virginia technical school Tuesday afternoon has died in a shootout with police on campus, authorities said.

According to Prince William County police, the double stabbing happened at the JATC/NECA Vocational School in Manassas just before 3 p.m.

Police Chief Peter Newsham described the scene at the school as “horrifying”.

“There are people here for training, and before you know it, one of them has lost his life and another is in a local hospital fighting for his life,” he told reporters at the scene. “I’m working on it,” he said. “I… can’t imagine what the family is going through right now.”

Officials said officers responded to the apprentice training center and encountered a man armed with a knife near the front entrance.

Multiple officers opened fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers recovered a knife at the scene.

Two men were found with stab wounds and were given first aid and taken to hospital. Police later announced that one victim succumbed to his injuries and the surviving victim remained hospitalized in critical condition.

It is unclear what led to the altercation that led to the stabbing.

“It’s very worrying that someone went crazy and did something like that to the deceased,” said a student named Raymond. FOX5 DC. “We are all sorry to hear that.”

Police did not immediately release the names of the attacker or the victim. Investigation is ongoing.
