Doubt in Biden’s cognitive abilities jumped after debate against Trump: poll

A CBS News poll released Sunday found that more voters are questioning President Biden’s cognitive abilities after Thursday’s presidential debate.

In the Friday-Saturday poll, 18% of voters said Biden’s debate performance instilled confidence in them, while 44% said former President Trump’s performance did. Just 21% said Biden made his views clear.

Asked in early June whether Biden had the mental and cognitive fitness to serve as president, 35% of respondents said yes. After the debate, that number dropped to 27%.

In a June 9 poll, 65% of respondents said Biden does not have the mental and cognitive health necessary to serve as president. That figure rose to 72%.

When respondents were asked about President Trump’s mental and cognitive abilities, roughly 50% voted for him, while 49% voted against him.

Among those who are registered Democrats, 55% say Biden should continue to run, while 45% think he should step aside.

After his disastrous debate performance, European officials appeared to liken Biden to a failed Roman emperor.

Biden’s poor performance in the CNN presidential debate has raised concerns about his chances of reelection, with both Republicans and Democrats calling for the president to end his campaign.

The New York Times The editorial boards of The New York Times and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution called on Biden to drop out of the race. After the debate, the Times editorial board wrote, “The greatest public service Mr. Biden can now do is to announce that he will not run for reelection.”
