Doug Emhoff at Malibu Gathering
On Saturday, Doug Emhoff, the husband of Kamala Harris, stepped out from his upscale Malibu home to participate in the No Kings event, a gathering filled with celebrities.
He spoke at the event, part of a series of 41 protests throughout Southern California aimed at opposing the Trump administration.
The largest protest is expected to take place in downtown Los Angeles, where a diverse crowd is anticipated to express their frustrations, not just with Trump, but also concerning the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Comedian Kathy Griffin, known for her controversial past photos with a faux Trump head, was spotted with Emhoff at the rally.
Other notable attendees included actors Sam Elliott, Kristen Johnston, and Nancy Lee Grahn.
Elliott, recognized for his iconic mustache and roles in films like The Big Lebowski, had previously worn a shirt that said “Vote for your ass.”
“Great turnout in Malibu today! Power to the people!” Griffin shared on Instagram regarding the rally.
Griffin is a well-known figure in anti-Trump activism, and she carried a sign that labeled ICE as “Trump’s lawless militia.”
Emhoff has remained politically engaged since his wife’s defeat in the 2024 election; however, his law firm has reportedly made deals with the Trump administration to provide significant pro bono legal services.
He was vocal about his disapproval of this arrangement but was sidelined, according to CNN.
Kamala Harris recently canceled a number of promotional engagements for her memoir “107 Days” in California due to backlash regarding her security arrangements funded by taxpayers.
She withdrew from events in Sacramento, San Diego, and Anaheim, yet Ticketmaster provided refunds, citing “scheduling conflicts.”
Harris has not yet made a decision about a potential presidential run in 2028.
The couple recently invested $8.15 million in a four-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Malibu, which boasts a heated pool, in-ground spa, and fire pit.
Constructed in 1979, the home features beamed ceilings, skylights, and several entertaining areas that offer stunning ocean views.
The neighborhood, known for its celebrity residents, is home to figures like Leonardo DiCaprio, Cher, and Lady Gaga. While tech giants Elon Musk and Peter Thiel once owned properties there, they’ve since relocated.
Meanwhile, at the “No Kings” event in Studio City, actors Annette Bening and Edward James Olmos made appearances.
Bening displayed a sign with Mary Poppins’ image overlaid with Trump’s face, criticizing him for being “super insensitive” among other remarks.
Olmos was notably present with the protesters, seen giving a thumbs up while walking past an upside-down American flag.
