Outside Boston’s TD Garden on Sunday, dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters called for a ceasefire in Gaza as thousands of fans gathered in the area to watch Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
About 50 protesters Boston 25 News They aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing war in the Middle East between Hamas terrorists and Israeli forces, which began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, leading to Israeli military retaliation.
“This genocide needs to end,” protest organizer Aneeka Abid told the outlet. “We call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the military occupation of Palestine.”
The protest came before Game 2 of the NBA Finals, when the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 105-98 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Protesters handed out placards with the Palestinian flag on one side and the Celtics logo on the other.
“This is our favourite local team, and secondly, Palestine… sport and standing up for justice go hand in hand,” Abid said.
Protesters also distributed informational fliers about the Gaza war with a picture of Celtics legend Bill Russell on the cover. Russell, a civil rights activist, died in 2022 at age 88.

The title of the flyer read, “What Would Bill Russell Do?”
Several fans passing by the protest site visually and verbally expressed their opposition and dissatisfaction with the demonstration.
“Some people abuse us, but we just ask them not to forget Gaza,” Abid said.
