Dr. Ben Carson Takes on Advisory Position in the Department of Agriculture under Trump Administration

Dr. Ben Carson, who led the Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD) during President Donald Trump’s first term, has officially joined the second Trump administration as a member of the Agricultural Advisory Committee.

Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins has appointed Carson as the national advisor on nutrition, health, and housing for the Department of Agriculture.

“Many Americans still deal with malnutrition issues. We have a chance—through sensible policy making—to provide our most vulnerable families with the resources they need to succeed,” Carson remarked in a statement.

“I feel privileged to collaborate with Secretary Rollins on such vital initiatives that aim to realize President Trump’s vision for a healthier and more robust America,” he added.

In a recent interview with Newsmax, Carson stated, “You are what you eat.”

He elaborated, saying, “This administration is keen to observe everything—from planting to harvesting and how food eventually lands on your plate, understanding what’s beneficial or harmful for health.”

Rollins commended Carson’s credentials, emphasizing that his insights will be pivotal in addressing the needs of rural communities.

“No one’s better suited than Dr. Carson to advise on policies that enhance daily living for Americans, covering areas from nutrition to quality care to ensuring families have safe housing,” she stated.

“With a substantial portion of the population living with chronic conditions, Dr. Carson’s experience is particularly valuable because rural areas face distinct challenges related to housing,” Rollins added.

Carson, a neurosurgeon and former director of pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, is noted for his pioneering work in the surgical separation of conjoined twins.

After seeking the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, Carson was selected by Trump to lead HUD, where he remained until the end of the first term.

Recently, Trump announced plans to honor Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award. In 2008, he received a similar honor from former President George W. Bush.
