Dr. Mehmet Oz Plans Medicaid Billing Audit in Minnesota
Dr. Mehmet Oz has informed Minnesota’s Governor, Tim Walz, about his intention to audit Medicaid billing practices. In a recent interview, Oz emphasized the seriousness of the situation, suggesting that what has emerged so far is just the beginning of uncovering potential fraud, indicating it could be among the largest instances in the state’s history. He noted, “We’re looking at over $500 million—money that appears to be unaccounted for, and tracking it down might be a challenge.”
Oz criticized the Walz administration, echoing sentiments from allies of former President Donald Trump. They assert that the governor has not taken adequate action regarding the alleged wrongdoing. “President Trump has made his stance clear. He doesn’t want the nearly 6 million residents of Minnesota to have taxpayers from other states cover the costs due to these issues,” Oz said, insisting they will demand accountability and restore funding to protect federal taxpayers. “Our responsibility is towards the most vulnerable,” he added.
In light of the ongoing fraud investigation, various programs including state Medicaid initiatives have come under closer examination. Walz has recently announced he won’t pursue re-election but is conducting an independent audit of Medicaid billing through the Minnesota Department of Human Services, with some payments on hold during this process.
A spokesperson for Walz stated the governor has been actively trying to address fraud and has sought more authority from the Legislature to implement stricter measures. Walz acknowledged the fraud crisis, highlighting his commitment to resolve the issue, while also expressing skepticism about some federal estimates concerning the scope of the fraud.
