Surgeon General Nominee Arrested Over Deleted Tweet

Dr. Nicole Safier, recently nominated by President Donald Trump for the role of Surgeon General, has been arrested for deleting a tweet that criticized the country’s leading public health official.

A couple of months prior to her nomination, Safier shared a post implying that the administration was downplaying the ongoing measles epidemic to avoid negative impacts ahead of the midterm elections. She mentioned, “They may not want to manage the loss of measles-free status in the United States until after the midterm elections,” in a now-deleted tweet from March.

This deletion is part of a pattern, as there are several posts she has erased from her account. These included comments questioning President Trump’s health, diverging from official government stances on vaccines and autism, and criticizing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In one of her deleted posts, Safier expressed skepticism about the President’s health, stating, “A lot of people have doubts about POTUS MRI, and I have my doubts, too.” She also described her frustration with the administration’s handling of various health policies during the pandemic.

Expressing her thoughts on parenting and public health, she remarked, “As a mother of three children, I don’t like men who tell me to ‘try hard’ when it comes to getting pregnant,” referencing Trump’s comments on Tylenol and autism. She emphasized that “Words matter. Facts matter, too.”

Another erased post pointed out her concerns about recent changes to the government’s vaccination schedule. Safier stated, “The pendulum has swung too far,” bringing attention to issues with the CDC’s vaccine schedule and calling for a more transparent approach.

Previously, President Trump had nominated Dr. Casey Means for the position in May 2025 but withdrew that nomination. Although Means faced initial resistance, she later aligned herself with the Kennedy and Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement.

Interestingly, before her nomination, Safier had been critical of Means, arguing that she lacked the necessary leadership experience for the Surgeon General role.
