Dr. Phil Critiques Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Remarks
Dr. Phil McGraw openly criticized Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday for her continual support of anti-American sentiments.
During an interview on June 13, Omar expressed that the U.S. was becoming “one of the worst countries” as she dealt with issues surrounding the Army’s 250th anniversary parade set for June 14. In a segment from “The Real Story,” Dr. Phil responded to Omar’s comments, suggesting that she should show more gratitude for her life in the U.S., given her background.
“You can’t make this up. Let’s consider who we’re talking about: Omar fled Somalia—a nation ravaged by civil conflict, corruption, and poverty—and spent years at a refugee camp in Kenya,” Dr. Phil remarked. “I genuinely feel for her. She was resettled in the U.S. as a refugee, given housing, education, and opportunities. She became a citizen at the age of 17 in 2000.”
He continued, “Omar was elected to Congress, becoming one of the first Muslim women in the House. This represents America’s dream. She should be grateful, but instead, she often criticizes the very country that provided her and her family a safe haven.”
Dr. Phil did not hold back, labeling Omar’s rhetoric as “disgusting.” He acknowledged her right to express her opinions but questioned the rationale behind them. “Culturally, psychologically, it’s troubling. But yes, she has the right to say it. However, those who voted for her should seriously reconsider their choice,” he added.
He also recalled a prior instance from June 2021 when Omar compared the U.S. and Israel to the Taliban and Hamas, calling it “crazy talk.” Dr. Phil emphasized that it was unacceptable to equate America with entities involved in horrific acts.
Furthermore, he criticized a female lawmaker for her 2019 comments about the September 11 attacks, where she described it as “Some people did something.” Dr. Phil questioned her phrasing, saying, “Really? Some people did something? It’s important to stand up for your country.”
