Dr. Phil Critiques Comparisons of Sidney Sweeney’s Ad to Nazism

Dr. Phil McGraw recently spoke out on “The Real Story,” addressing a left-wing individual’s comparison of an advertisement featuring actress Sidney Sweeney and American Eagle Jeans to Nazism.

The ad’s tagline—”Sidney Sweeney has great jeans”—sparked outrage among some liberals who felt it suggested themes of eugenics and Nazi propaganda. During a recent YouTube episode, Dr. Phil called this comparison “injurious” and labeled it as “dangerous.”

He remarked, “The awakened left is leaping at every chance to sulk and cancel. They don’t miss a beat. Instead of having civilized discussions, they resort to screaming on social media and equating ads with Nazi Germany.”

This commentary gained traction on July 26 when TikTok users began to echo the sentiment, comparing Sweeney’s advertisement to “Nazi propaganda.” Dr. Phil expressed his dismay, stating, “These Holocaust analogies are humiliating. This was a significant atrocity in human history.”

“How can you possibly link genocide and Hitler’s final solution to a blue jean commercial? Really, what are you thinking?” he continued. “Words can be dangerous, but ignorance and overreaction can be even more so.”

Some individuals in the liberal camp interpreted the phrase “great genes” as a nod towards white eugenics, particularly given Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes. In a related video, Sweeney comments on jeans being passed down from her parents, suggesting her “jeans” are blue as the camera captures her.

Following the backlash, American Eagle released a statement on Instagram, reaffirming that the ad was simply about jeans and emphasizing that “amazing jeans look good on everyone.”
