Dr. Phil clashed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) advocates who rejected her arguments for equality of outcome as “Marxist.”
The host brought together several experts to discuss the impact of DEI on American culture on his show, Dr. Phil Primetime.. Guests included two black men, the Rev. James Ward Jr. and Professor Erec Smith of York College of the University of Pennsylvania, and a white woman. ”HR Leader” and DEI advocate Rachel Kargus.
Ward ridiculed how inconsistently DEI is applied to society, asking, “Where are the Asian, Latino, and Hispanic basketball players and football players? Where are the black players in the National Hockey League? ?” he asked. He went on to argue that the United States is experiencing a “new civil war” of ideology and that DEI proponents are “playing God” by interfering with society.
Kargas defended DEI programs, pointing to a popular graphic depicting two images of three people of different heights trying to watch a baseball game through a fence. In one image showing ‘equality’, each person has one box to stand on, the tallest person is standing on an unnecessary box, and the shortest person is still standing on the other side of the fence. Not visible. In his other image marked “Stocks”, they each have as many boxes as they need to see through the fence. Two are the shortest and none are the tallest.

“When we talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion, we’re talking about the fact that certain populations are at the table and that we have to overcome racism, unconscious bias, and misogyny. , how do we help level the playing field for them, guys?” she said.
“Okay, so you’re aiming for equality of outcome?” Dr. Phil asked, and Kargus agreed.
He turned to the pastor and said, “I heard you say about playing God,” referring to Ward’s earlier comments.
Dr. Phil went back to Kargus and asked, “How do you create equality of outcome if people are not the same? You’re right, some people are short when you look through the fence, and some people are tall. You can’t do both.” Play in the NBA. It cannot create equality of outcome. Kargas, who has worked in the recruitment industry for 25 years, says that when it comes to networking, people “tend to introduce people they know who live next door or who play golf with the CEO, so the population within an organization is It almost looks the same.” She went on to claim that she was advocating for “more intentional programming that reaches a broader audience.”
“There are even more benefits!” Smith, who was appearing on the program remotely, interjected. “If you support or stick to meritocracy, it doesn’t matter whether someone plays golf with the CEO or not. What matters is that those values and the skills needed for the job are aligned. Your argument proves that we need a meritocracy.”
