A well-known drag queen has been removed from the Phoenix Pride Festival lineup following allegations of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy, according to police and event organizers.
Michael Browder, who performs as Aubrey Ghalichi, faces two charges of sexual misconduct following an investigation that started in June. The details were revealed in court documents.
Browder, along with another man, reportedly met the teenager for sexual encounters through an online dating app, as indicated in the court records.
Investigators uncovered a message on the teen’s laptop that led them to Browder, who had previously been identified as a “known Phoenix Drug Queen.”
While speaking to officers on September 16, Browder allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activities with the child. However, records show investigators could not verify the victim’s age.
He claimed he believed 13 years old was, in fact, akin to being 18 or 19. The young teen mentioned he had pretended to be older on the app.
Phoenix Pride announced that Browder was scheduled to perform at the festival on October 18 and 19 but is now in the process of removing him from all promotional materials.
The organization stated, “The alleged crimes appear to contradict everything Phoenix Pride stands for,” emphasizing the need to present a safe environment.
They added that it’s crucial to note Browder has not yet been convicted; his removal is based on the available information to ensure the safety of the community.
Browder is currently held on a $10,000 bond. If released, he must wear an ankle monitor and stay away from the minor, as well as comply with restrictions on weapons and substance use.
