Some people suggest that Drake might have thrown a subtle jab at his ex, Serena Williams, in a recent Instagram post featuring him playing tennis with rapper Sexy Red.
On Monday, Drake posted a picture of himself alongside Sexy Red on the tennis court, captioning it, “I said tennis lesson and she said where’s my bracelet or necklace.”
Notably, the post included Drake liking a comment that read “Serena Williams upgrade,” accompanied by two fire emojis.
Drake and Williams, who has won 23 Grand Slam titles, had an on-and-off relationship from 2011 to 2015.
Another commenter noted: “He liked this and it’s awkward,” with a crying-laughing emoji adding to the sentiment.
This isn’t the first time ex-partners have stirred the pot publicly. Back in 2022, Drake mentioned Williams in his song “Middle of the Ocean,” taking a dig at her husband, Alexis Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit.
In that track, he raps, “Sidebar, Serena, your husband’s a groupie/He claims we’re fine/No, boo, it’s like you coming for sushi.”
Ohanian responded by sharing a photo of himself and their daughter, Alexis Jr., watching Williams play tennis. He wrote, “The reason I continue to win is because I relentlessly strive to be the absolute best at everything I do, including being the best groupie for my wife and daughter.”
Rumors flared about tension between Drake and Williams when Drake attended Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl this year.
During the show, Williams was seen dancing to Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which many interpreted as her throwing shade at Drake amidst rising tension between the two rappers.
In a TIME magazine interview, the tennis legend clarified that she was “absolutely” not dissing Drake during that performance.
Recently, Ohanian had a moment on ESPN’s “First Take,” where he teased that perhaps Williams should get back together with Drake after his Super Bowl appearance alongside Lamar.
Interestingly, Drake once mentioned that he wrote his hit song “Too Good” featuring Rihanna with Williams in mind.
