Cannes – Draymond Green Looks Ahead to Post-NBA Life
Draymond Green, the star forward for the Warriors and a key player in the team’s four championship victories, shared his thoughts about future endeavors beyond basketball while attending the Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival. He spoke at the Sports Beach event hosted by Stagwell.
“As I transition from basketball over the next couple of years, I can see that’s the direction my life is heading,” the 35-year-old expressed. He mentioned his commitment to sharing unbiased narratives about the sport through his podcast.
Green didn’t go into detail about the conclusion of his NBA career.
Renowned for his aggressive style and distinctive approach on the court, Green reflected on his role as a so-called “sports villain.” He remarked, “To have a hero, you need a villain. They’re interconnected… What makes a story engaging if everyone is a hero?”
He emphasized that off the court, he is a different person, driven solely by the desire to win, and insists that on-court conflicts are not personal. “I don’t always seek to be antagonistic,” he insisted, addressing a prior incident with Timberwolves player Rudy Gobert when tensions flared during a game.
During a recent game that led to a five-game suspension due to an escalation of tensions, Green did not link this incident with Gobert to the future of his career. His achievements, including being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, have helped him carve out a presence in media through his podcast and guest appearances on shows like “Inside The NBA.”
