Drew Barrymore Discusses Recent Cancer Scare
Drew Barrymore opened up about feeling unsettled following a recent cancer scare during her show.
On a recent episode, she shared that she had to undergo an emergency biopsy after receiving concerning results from her mammogram. During her conversation with guest Tig Notaro, who had her own experience with breast cancer, Barrymore explained, “I’m perfectly fine, but my mammogram test came back bad. So I was taken to that room and then had an emergency biopsy and waited for five days.” It’s certainly a tense situation to find yourself in.
The star of “50 First Dates” admitted she felt uncertain about how to approach the topic of cancer on her show. She commented, “I wanted to discuss a certain topic on this show, but I didn’t know how. That’s a very difficult thing to approach.” However, after watching Notaro’s documentary on cancer, she felt a little more emboldened to address the subject.
Barrymore, who has long been an advocate for regular cancer screenings, emphasized the importance of these tests. In fact, during a previous episode, she underwent a mammogram live in front of her audience, showing her commitment to raising awareness. “I’m about to put my breasts into a machine called a mammogram,” she casually mentioned at the time, displaying her willingness to make the experience transparent for viewers.
During the latest episode, Barrymore and Notaro also discussed the latter’s documentary, “Come See Me in the Good Light.” Barrymore described it as an intimate portrayal that captures not just the challenges faced by those living with cancer, but also the strength and humanity involved. “It’s not heavy,” she insisted, highlighting the uplifting aspects of the journey.
