Drew Barrymore would ‘love to support’ daughters in acting, but not until they’re older: ‘North of 14, 15’

Drew Barrymore doesn’t want her daughters to follow in her famous footsteps — for now.

In a new interview with people, Barrymore explained that although her children are interested in acting, she doesn’t want them to seek the spotlight.

“Kids ask me all the time, they want to be in movies, they want to be on social media, they want to sing, they want to do everything. I always say, ‘School plays, drama camps, everything.’ [yes]” Barrymore told the outlet.

She continued, “But when you’re in the public eye, [no] ‘And they say, ‘So what’s the number?’ And I always say, ‘I understand you want an answer, and I don’t want to give you a very specific answer.’ I know the fact that I can’t do it isn’t satisfying, but it’s going to be a feeling.” It’s going to be when I think I’m ready. ”

Barrymore has two daughters, Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, with ex-husband Will Kopelman.

“As a parent, I definitely want to support my children when they grow up,” the talk show host said. “Again, what number is that? I don’t know, it’s not 13, and it’s probably not 14. It’s there, but your child needs you to listen to them and support them. I don’t know what number it is, but it’s probably north of 14 or 15.

The 49-year-old is a descendant of the famous Barrymore acting family, including her father, grandfather, great-grandparents, and great-uncle, Ethel Barrymore and Lionel Barrymore.

She entered the entertainment world by appearing in commercials at the age of 11 months and had her breakout role on “ET” at the age of 7.

Barrymore experienced hardships as a child actor, including substance abuse issues, stints in rehabilitation, stays in psychiatric hospitals, and three divorces.

She’s now been sober for five years, and despite her difficult experiences, the California native still understands what fame has given her.

“When I had my first child, I remember people asking me, ‘So, do you want your kids to be in business?’ And as if this business was so toxic. It always gave me that sad feeling of, ‘Wow,'” she told People. “And I just thought, I don’t feel that way about this business at all. This business has given me every opportunity under the sun, and I couldn’t be more grateful for my life. You can not.”

In 2022, she also told the outlet that she was always drawn to a career in entertainment because of her famous family.

“Being a part of my father’s family was like a cosmic, spiritual, magnetic pull, and I feel like I have to do what they did,” Barrymore said. .
