Drew Brees and Partner May Pursue Padres Purchase

Drew Brees, along with his business associate Joe Kudla, is reportedly interested in acquiring the San Diego Padres.

Kudla, a former NFL player and founder of Vuori, has teamed up with Brees to submit a bid for the baseball team, as reported on Thursday. They are among five groups vying for control of the franchise. Also in the mix is Joe Lacob, owner of the Golden State Warriors, and billionaire Jose E. Feliciano.

The Padres are expected to go on the market in late 2025, following the passing of former team president Peter Seidler, who was part of the ownership group that bought the team in 2012 for just under $1 billion.

The projected sale price for the club could range between $2 billion and $3 billion.

Currently, Steve Cohen holds the record for the highest MLB team sale, having purchased the Mets for $2.42 billion in 2020.

Brees has strong connections to San Diego, where he started his career with the Chargers in 2001. Kudla is also tied to the area, having graduated from the University of San Diego, and his company is based in California.

The two have been friends for some time, with Kudla referring to Brees as “the coolest training buddy.” In a recent interview, he remarked on Brees’ optimism and motivation, recalling an unforgettable Saints game they attended in New Orleans, where the fan affection for Brees was palpable.

While it’s uncertain when the sale of the Padres will be finalized, initial offers are due this week.
