Drew Brees announces scholarships in honor of Jason Kelce: ‘Your legacy transcends the gridiron’

Tributes have continued to pour in for Jason Kelce since his retirement, but this one may be the most meaningful.

The longtime Philadelphia Eagles center retired this week after an illustrious career that earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame.

But Drew Brees, another soon-to-be Hall of Famer, pays tribute to Kelce’s accomplishments on and off the field.

Before making the big announcement about Kelce’s restaurant, Walk-On’s Bistro and Bar, Brees congratulated Kelce on his “extraordinary 13-year NFL career” in an Instagram video.

“We love celebrating the underdog spirit and hustle,” Brees said in an Instagram post. “Our founder Brandon Landry (walk-on basketball player for the LSU Tigers), my brother Reid Brees (walk-on baseball player for Baylor University and member of the College World Series team), And just like Jason Kelce in the NFL.”

Next, Brees said the restaurant plans to award 13 scholarships to players who will advance to the football program this year. Kelce was accepted out of the University of Cincinnati and played 13 seasons in the NFL.

“Jason’s journey from his days as a reserve player at the University of Cincinnati to becoming one of the most respected names in the NFL has been incredible,” Brees said.

“These scholarships mean more than just financial aid. They reflect the qualities Jason Kelce has demonstrated throughout his career, and his relentless spirit and unwavering dedication to leading athletes to greatness. It shows my respect.”

“Jason, your legacy goes beyond the bars. It is of heart, indomitable perseverance, and a deep belief in your own potential. Through this commitment, your spirit of inspiration will continue to guide generations to come. That’ll be motivating. Thank you and here’s the spirit of Jason.” Walk-on. ”

Kelce played in 193 games in his NFL career, the second-most in team history. He started 156 consecutive games, a franchise record. He was named a Pro Bowler seven times and All-Pro six times during his 13 NFL seasons, winning the 2018 Super Bowl LII.
