Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees expressed optimism regarding Aaron Donald’s potential return to the Los Angeles Rams this season.
In a recent episode of USA Today Sports’ “Sports Seriously,” hosted by Madison Tenenbaum, Brees said, “Absolutely,” when discussing the possibility of Donald coming back.
“First off, I saw him on Instagram, and honestly, he looks to be in great shape. I mean, I’m still a bit scared of him,” Brees remarked. “If he’s thinking, ‘You can come back. You don’t need to play a full game; maybe just 20 to 25 snaps. You’d still be a pass rusher.’”
Brees added that Donald might feel drawn to rejoin the Rams since he could be playing alongside the current NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett, who was acquired in a trade this offseason. This reunion might enhance their chances of contending for another Super Bowl.
At 35 years old, Donald has built a reputation as one of the most intense defensive linemen in NFL history. His impressive 10-year career includes three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, and he played a vital role in helping the Rams win their second Super Bowl in 2020.
Donald was instrumental in that Super Bowl victory, notably with a critical sack of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the final moments of the game.
Brees noted that the Rams’ current approach seems reminiscent of the all-in strategy they employed in 2021, suggesting that they are committed again. “It really feels similar,” he said. “Matthew Stafford is playing at a high level and could be the MVP. I think the next few years could be his best. It depends on how long he wants to keep playing.”
He also spoke highly of the talent around Stafford, mentioning players like Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. The Rams have further strengthened their roster during the offseason, adding former Chiefs cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jalen Watson, as well as signing Garrett to a major deal with the Browns.
