NFL Trade Speculations Surrounding Alvin Kamara

With the NFL trade deadline looming, many are watching to see if teams like the New Orleans Saints will consider trading star players in pursuit of draft picks for potential rebuilding. One name that frequently comes up is running back Alvin Kamara. Recently, he expressed his thoughts about the possibility of being traded, indicating that he shares a mutual understanding with general manager Mickey Loomis—but he also warned he might retire if such a trade were to occur.

Kamara humorously mentioned that if a trade were on the table, he might just go enjoy a piña colada somewhere. “If I were a GM, I would tell a player, ‘Hey, we’re trading you. Just wanted to let you know,’” he said during a recent press conference.

Saints icon Drew Brees, who knows Kamara well, shared his perspective on the situation. He noted that the chatter around trades often intensifies when the team’s record isn’t strong—currently sitting at 1-6. “When the season appears ‘lost,’ that’s when people start talking about trading players for draft picks to rebuild. It’s all about rebuilding, right?”

Brees, who has a deep appreciation for Kamara, described him as someone who truly loves being a part of the Saints and the New Orleans community. “Alvin doesn’t want to leave. He loves this team and wants to play in front of this city,” Brees stated. To him, Kamara’s loyalty is something we should celebrate—it’s not often seen in today’s sports culture.

Kamara isn’t the only player facing speculation. Wide receiver Chris Olave, defensive end Cam Jordan, and linebacker Demario Davis are also names that have come up in trade discussions. There’s a general uncertainty about the direction the team may take.

Brees, however, believes that having strong leaders like Kamara in the locker room is invaluable. He remarked that when a team is struggling, there tends to be a rush to find someone to blame. “People want a good story, and dysfunction attracts attention. But I’d argue that many winning teams have more issues than these Saints do right now,” he said.

Reflecting on the situation, Brees emphasized that despite the poor record, the Saints have a supportive atmosphere. “Everyone respects the coach, cares about the city and the team. They take pride in their roles,” he added.

As for the future, Brees feels the Saints are “close” to finding their identity, especially under new head coach Kellen Moore. While not many anticipated a quick turnaround for the current season, Brees and several players, including Kamara, are determined to push hard to get the Saints back into playoff contention.
