Recall of Floria Dried Apricots Due to Undeclared Sulfites

There’s a recall happening for specific cases of Floria dried apricots because the packaging doesn’t indicate that they contain sulfites.

Turkana Food Inc. announced a recall of 352 cases of dried apricots on Thursday. This action follows a notice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The dried apricots are packaged in 200-gram paper bags.

This move was prompted by daily sampling conducted by the New York State Agricultural Market, which revealed that the dried apricots contained sulfites that were not mentioned on the label.

Sulfites are commonly used as preservatives in food and drinks, but it’s worth mentioning that some individuals may have allergic reactions to them.

The dried apricots in question have an expiration date set for November 2026.

Additionally, the recall notification specifies a lot number “440090478-15-333” and a UPC label “2539560010.” Shoppers are advised not to consume any product included in this lot number.

If you have one of these products, the best course of action is to return it to the store where you bought it for a refund.

So far, there haven’t been any reports of allergic reactions linked to the undeclared sulfites.

According to the FDA, the affected dried apricots were distributed in several states, including:

  • Florida
  • Kentucky
  • Virginia
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Tennessee
  • Massachusetts
  • Texas
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Michigan
  • Rhode Island
  • Pennsylvania
  • North Carolina
  • Maryland
  • Ohio
  • Alabama
  • Missouri
  • California

The company and the FDA are currently investigating the manufacturing issues that led to this oversight.

In the meantime, Turkana Food has halted all production and distribution related to the affected products.

Based in New Jersey, Turkana Food describes itself as a “family-run ethnic food distributor,” providing services to independent supermarkets, chain stores, and various institutions.
