An Arizona driver has been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, who jumped from a car while fleeing police after allegedly being under the influence of drugs, according to reports.
William Holloway, 36, was arrested Saturday after his vehicle broke down following a police pursuit near Mount Lemmon, the highest peak in Arizona’s 9,000-foot Santa Catalina Mountains. KOLD reported.
According to reports, police responded to a domestic violence call early Saturday evening after a woman told officers her boyfriend had taken illegal drugs before driving to the peak and then refused to let her out of the moving vehicle.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Holloway ignored orders to stop when officers caught up with him.
The police chase ended in horror when a passenger trapped inside the car, whose identity has not yet been released, was thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured, while Holloway continued driving, the station reported.
Officers attempted life-saving measures but the woman later died at a nearby hospital. Officers then found Holloway with a flat tire, reports said.
Holloway was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and trafficking in stolen property.
He is being held on $750,000 bail.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
