Driver Attacks Multiple People in Queens Incident

An erratic driver, potentially employed by Amazon, allegedly assaulted five men in Queens, notably smashing a cargo van into a woman’s vehicle, according to authorities.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz revealed on Wednesday that 32-year-old Dauri Batita faces multiple charges, including attempted robbery and assault. These incidents occurred on Sunday and turned a normally quiet area in Forest Park into a “multi-block crime scene.”

Prosecutors noted that Batita, who resides in Brooklyn, kicked off a “violent rampage” just after 4 p.m., wearing a blue vest with the Amazon logo and driving a white Ram van filled with packages.

Officials stated that Batita first targeted a 2015 Nissan at the corner of Park Lane South and Forest Parkway in Woodhaven. As the 61-year-old driver and his three passengers observed, Batita reportedly smashed an object against the car’s windshield, shattering it.

While four women waited anxiously for police at the intersection of Forest Parkway and 85th Street, Batita crashed head-on into their Nissan, then reversed and drove in front of them. After attempting to back up again, the Nissan sped off, with Batita in hot pursuit. Three women in the vehicle reported significant discomfort in their necks, backs, and knees due to the incident.

Later, Batita allegedly drove the wrong way on a one-way street near the intersection of Highway 87 and 85th Street. Reports indicated that he exited the van and struck a 66-year-old man several times, leading to loosened teeth and noticeable injury. The victim was taken to the hospital for care.

At the same intersection, Batita reportedly punched a 33-year-old man multiple times in the face while attempting to yank off his necklace. Following that, he attacked a 72-year-old man, causing him to fall and scrape his arm.

Continuing his spree, Batita jumped back into the Ram and drove against traffic, hitting a 2023 Nissan. He then allegedly opened the passenger door, punched a 75-year-old man, and threatened to steal his vehicle. Fortunately, the victim’s son intervened, restraining Batita until the police arrived.

During an arraignment, Queens Criminal Court Judge Thomas Wright Fernandez ordered Batita held without bail. Prosecutors pointed out that his actions disrupted a once-peaceful neighborhood near Forest Park.

“This defendant ramming his delivery van into several vehicles and attacking four people, including three elderly individuals, is deeply concerning,” Katz stated. “We’re grateful the NYPD apprehended him swiftly to prevent further harm.”

If convicted, Batita could face up to seven years in prison. He is expected to appear in court again on May 19. Meanwhile, there’s been no immediate response from Amazon regarding his employment status.
