Driver in Washington State Allegedly Chases Boy on Dirt Bike
A driver in Washington is facing serious allegations after, reportedly, chasing a boy riding a dirt bike onto a sidewalk. This unusual event unfolded on Monday evening in a residential neighborhood.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Wendy A. Clemente, 56, drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk at around 5:05 p.m., aggressively trying to run the boy down. Thankfully, the child remained unharmed.
A witness managed to capture video footage of the silver sedan pursuing the child along the sidewalk, which prompted law enforcement to quickly identify Clemente as the suspect and initiate a search.
About an hour later, officers responded to another call regarding a possible robbery close by. A homeowner, monitoring his security camera, reported seeing a woman trying various doorknobs on his property.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Clemente in the driveway and took her into custody. Initially, she denied any involvement and claimed she was merely looking for other dogs to socialize with her own. Oddly, she stated she didn’t know the homeowner and couldn’t recall any issues involving children.
Witnesses noted signs of troubling behavior. Although Clemente first insisted she hadn’t been drinking, she eventually admitted to having had alcohol before the incident. Additionally, when officers attempted to put her in the patrol car, she resisted, even trying to kick one of the deputies.
Authorities have since obtained a search warrant for blood samples as part of their DUI investigation into the matter. Clemente has been booked into Spokane County Jail on various charges, including attempted first-degree assault and DUI.
In an unexpected turn, a judge has since ordered her release on her own recognizance the following day, without requiring bail. No injuries were reported from either event, which seems, I guess, a small relief amidst the chaos.
