Driver who struck pregnant woman on her way home from a Beyoncé concert captured in New York City: officials

A driver involved in a hit-and-run incident, who allegedly dragged a pregnant woman home from a Beyoncé concert, has been charged with murder, according to police statements from Wednesday. The husband of the deceased victim criticized the driver, calling her a “monster.”

Chaquasia Pigford, 28, now faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, manslaughter, and reckless driving, among others. Following her arrest, she was ordered to remain in custody without bail by Judge Dena E. Douglas.

During the court hearing, Pigford had several family members present, including her husband’s mother. Tiffany’s father-in-law, Nick Sifuni, expressed that the family felt “happy today,” but that they had been devastated since the loss of Tiffany.

According to reports, Tiffany was about 12 weeks pregnant and was returning from a concert when the tragic event occurred. While driving her 2021 Toyota 4Runner, she was rear-ended by Pigford, who was in a stolen 2016 Chevy Trax. After the collision, Pigford allegedly fled two blocks before stopping.

As Tiffany exited her vehicle to approach Pigford, she was reportedly not allowed to speak to her. The prosecution indicated that Pigford accelerated, momentarily making contact with Tiffany, who was then pushed onto the hood of the car. Eyewitnesses reported that Tiffany called for help, requesting to document the vehicle’s license plate. This is when Pigford reportedly accelerated again, tragically striking Tiffany.

In the aftermath, Pigford allegedly crashed into parked vehicles, ultimately abandoning the stolen car when its tires blew out. She then fled on foot but was later apprehended in South Carolina after returning to Brooklyn.

Prior to her arrest, Pigford, living nearby, denied any involvement, blaming the vehicle’s owners for the crash. Her attorney attempted to secure bail, citing her stable community ties and employment in home health care, but the judge denied the request.

Pigford appeared in court wearing a navy blue hoodie and black leggings, with plans for her next hearing set for July 30th.
