Drone strike on Ukraine results in four fatalities in Kyiv

Early Friday, Russian missile and drone strikes on Kiev resulted in at least four deaths and left around 20 others injured, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who noted that air sirens went off during a broader attack across Ukraine.

Klitschko mentioned that search and rescue operations are still in progress at various sites.

The capital experienced multiple explosions, with debris scattered across different districts as air defenses attempted to counter incoming threats, as reported by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s administration.

Authorities have reported significant damage across several areas and urged residents to find safe shelter.

A fire erupted in a 16-story residential building in the Solomiyansky district, leading emergency services to evacuate three residents while operations to manage the blaze continued. Another fire occurred at a metal warehouse nearby.

Tkachenko also indicated that a metro truck connecting two stations was damaged, although no injuries or fires were reported in that instance.

Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the regional military administration in Chernichv, mentioned that explosions occurred near apartment buildings, shattering windows and doors. He noted that some ballistic missile detonations were recorded on the outskirts of the city.

This nighttime assault came as a bit of a shock, especially in light of former President Trump’s previous comments suggesting that ongoing conflict might be preferable for Ukraine and Russia before any peace negotiations could take place. He made those remarks during a meeting with Germany’s new Prime Minister, Friedrich Merz.
