Drug Gangs Employ Car Bombs and Suicide Bombers to Assault Police in Western Mexico

A vehicle laden with explosives was driven into a police station in western Mexico, resulting in a detonation that killed the suspected bomber and two others, injuring ten. This incident highlights the intensifying confrontation between Mexican authorities and drug cartels.

The perpetrating cartel has not been confirmed yet. The two main contributors to the violence in the region, Cartel Unidos and Cartel Jalisco New Generation, are in fierce competition for control over territory. Notably, both organizations have been labeled as foreign terrorist groups by the U.S. government.

This explosion took place shortly after 11:40 a.m. in front of a regional police building located in Coahuaina, Michoacán. Information from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office was supplied to Breitbart Texas.

An unidentified individual drove a black SUV, packed with explosives, into the police building and ignited it. The explosion resulted in the driver’s death, along with two other fatalities, and left ten people injured.

In the aftermath of the explosion, local authorities quickly released a warning urging people to stay away from the area.

Following the incident, military and police personnel used helicopters to transport some survivors to a major hospital in Morelia, the capital of the state, for urgent care.

The violent act coincides with the Mexican government’s ongoing Operation Michoacán, aimed at deploying military and federal police forces to restore peace in the area. This operation follows large protests that erupted after the assassination of Carlos Manzo, a local mayor who was well-regarded for his opposition to drug cartels. A gunman assassinated Manzo in front of his family during a public gathering last month.
