Comedian Druski, known for his skits, has stirred up controversy by appearing at a NASCAR event in whiteface. In the footage, he poses as a white man, complete with a fake mustache, mullet hairstyle, tattoos, bare overalls, and a cowboy hat, even showcasing a conspicuously bright red farmer’s tan. He yells phrases like “I’m white and proud” while, disturbingly, spitting on the legs of Black individuals he encounters.
Jason Whitlock, a host on Blazetv, expressed his views on the act, calling it “intentionally provocative” rather than fearlessly humorous. He suggests that Druski’s performance implies a seeming privilege, noting that it emphasizes a form of hypocrisy, where he can do things that white comedians might grapple with.
Whitlock remarked, “I’m not angry about the video itself—it’s harmless. But the underlying hypocrisy… that’s what gets to me.” He believes Druski’s intent was to stir up reactions among white viewers.
Contributor Shemeka Michelle echoed similar sentiments, stating that she found the video harmless too. It even led her to think about a hat she has in her closet. However, she pointed out that similar actions by white comedians often lead to public apologies.
She noted, “White people generally can’t act like this without facing backlash. I can understand why some online might call this hypocritical.” Michelle emphasizes that there’s a certain dynamic in comedy where Black individuals can express things that their white counterparts cannot, hinting at the complex nature of race and humor in society.
