Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Secretary of Defense, called Pete Hegses a “f—liar” and demanded that he resign.
Duckworth, a combat veteran, former Black Hawk helicopter pilot and member of the Senate Armed Service and Foreign Relations Committee, said Hegses risked the lives of American service members by discussing the timing and sequencing of a US attack targeting Hauches in Yemen in early March.
“Pete Hegses is an f—liar. This is very clearly categorized information he recklessly leaked so that he can kill our pilot. He must immediately step down in disgrace,” Duckworth said in a statement.
“Hegseth and all other officials included in this group chat should be subject to independent investigations. If Republicans do not join us in holding the Trump administration accountable, they are conspiring to this likely criminal violation of our national security.”
Hegseth has actively refused to do anything wrong when sharing information via commercial messaging app signals following the release of these text messages by Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg.
Trump has so far refused to fire any of the officials involved in the catastrophe. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz took responsibility for bringing Goldberg to chat. These include Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Director of National Intelligence.
The outraged Democrats are joined by Republicans who violate the Trump administration's borders. Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) said the White House was a “denial” in which information shared is classified or sensitive. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said there was an investigation.
