Duration of Caleb Williams' absence due to hamstring injury

There’s a bit more insight regarding Caleb Williams’ injury now.

The quarterback for the Bears has sustained a Grade 2 hamstring injury on his right side. Doctors estimate that he could be out for about three to four weeks, as reported.

Williams will miss the upcoming home game against the Eagles on Monday, and while the Bears have been somewhat vague about the situation, we do know that he was impacted significantly.

He went down during the Bears’ recent game against the Vikings, a tough 9-3 loss, and seemed to be in quite a bit of pain as he remained on the field.

After showing visible emotion, he had to be carted off the field.

Given that it was a non-contact injury and his distressing reaction, there were concerns that the injury might be much more serious, possibly even season-ending.

However, further tests revealed that he dodged the worst outcomes and is dealing with a hamstring issue. Coach Ben Johnson mentioned that Williams is on a week-to-week assessment but noted that the results were “somewhat encouraging.”

“What I know is this: he’s not your average athlete,” Johnson commented last week. “He has a history of bouncing back quicker than expected, so I’m not going to set a strict timeline here. We’re going to treat it as week-to-week. He’ll tackle this challenge head-on.”

Interestingly, Williams had previously dealt with a similar hamstring injury during his college career.

As for the Bears’ quarterback situation, it’s looking a bit uncertain. Backup Tyson Bagent is currently in concussion protocol, though he did practice on Saturday and is listed as questionable for the game on Monday.

If Bagent is unable to play, third-string quarterback Case Keenum would step in.
