Diane Cannon’s Attempt to Visit the White House Hits a Snag
Diane Cannon, 88, is making headlines—not just for her age, but for a recent attempt to enter the White House that went awry. The actress, known for her role in “Heaven Can Wait,” was turned away by Secret Service agents due to a discrepancy in her passport, specifically her age.
Recently, Cannon traveled to Washington, D.C., with fellow actresses Kym Douglas and Tracey Bregman, along with TV personality and chef Christine Avanti-Fischer. They were promoting their new podcast, “God’s Table,” and had planned to do some sightseeing in the area.
However, a hiccup occurred when they faced security challenges. Douglas documented the moment in a video clip, saying, “We’re lined up on a great tour, and we have these secret service guys and all the federal agents. Someone lied about their age, so we can’t get in.” Cannon laughed along as Bregman and Avanti-Fischer playfully teased her about the mix-up.
“Listen,” Cannon remarked, “a few years ago, I lied about my age on my passport.” Douglas chimed in with humor, asking, “Who won’t, Diane?” Avanti-Fischer added, “If we get in, it’ll be a miracle of God.”
The entertaining moment was shared on social media, with Cannon later reposting it and stating, “And I’ll do it again.” She commented, “The numbers they fixed on me are not anyone’s business. The right girl? The right guy? It’s just a flashing number…”
Bregman responded to the post with affection, saying, “Hiiii. I love you so much, but seriously, how can I change my age?”
Throughout her career, Cannon has been a significant presence in entertainment since the 1950s, making her Broadway debut in 1962. A pivotal moment came in 1969 with her role in “Bob, Carroll, Ted and Alice,” leading to her nomination for a 1976 Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film, making her the first woman nominated for her contributions in both acting and directing.
On the personal front, Cannon’s love life has also seen its highs and lows. She married the iconic actor Carrie Grant in 1965, and they had a daughter, Jennifer, before divorcing in 1968. Later, she wed real estate investor Stanley Finberg in 1985, but they separated in 1991.
Earlier this year, she stated that she is still dating, mentioning she has “a very special person” in her life while indicating she sees “some specials.” It seems Cannon maintains a vibrant social life even at 88.
