Dylan Mulvaney Cast in Broadway’s “Six” Amid Controversy

Dylan Mulvaney has been cast as Anne Boleyn in the Broadway musical “Six,” a decision that has sparked significant discussion online. Some transgender activists have called this a “miracle,” especially since the show faced backlash on social media regarding its casting choices.

The musical is celebrated for its feminist themes and promotion of women’s history. However, the choice of Mulvaney, an influencer, has led critics to argue that it undermines female performers in a production primarily centered on women.

The backlash was severe enough that the show had to restrict its social media engagement. The “X” account for the production was locked to non-followers, and comments were disabled on related Instagram posts.

Mulvaney shared thoughts on the controversy in a social media video series titled “Days of Girlhood,” where she reflects on her experiences as a transgender individual in 2026. In her video, she expressed pride about stepping onto the Broadway stage in a role that celebrates femininity.

She mentioned the “privilege” that contributed to her landing the role, briefly referencing the prior Bud Light controversy that elevated her visibility. In April 2023, Mulvaney revealed a video of Bud Light sending her a beer pack with her face on it, which later caused a notable decline in the brand’s sales.

Mulvaney affirmed her commitment to theater, stating she would endure challenges again if it meant being on stage. Critics of her casting maintain that the musical doesn’t need to adhere to historical accuracy and have accused critics of harboring transphobic views. Mulvaney is set to begin performances at the Lena Horne Theater in New York City starting February 16th.
