An e-bike rider is fighting for his life after being hit by a driver who fled the scene in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, according to police.
The 33-year-old cyclist was traveling south in the right lane of Nostrand Avenue, close to Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights, at around 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by a white 2026 Hyundai Elantra.
Law enforcement stated that the driver of the Elantra merged from the center lane into the right lane, causing the accident.
The impact caused the cyclist to be thrown off his bike and onto the pavement, resulting in head injuries, as reported by police.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was listed in critical condition on Wednesday.
Authorities indicated that the Elantra driver fled south on Nostrand Avenue and is still at large.
This incident follows another e-bike accident weeks earlier, where a cyclist was fatally struck by a pick-up truck in the Bronx. According to sources, the 50-year-old cyclist was riding west on East 145th Street when he was hit by the truck, which was heading south on Brook Avenue in Mott Haven at around 8:25 a.m. on October 7.
The 55-year-old driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and did not face charges, police noted.
Additionally, last month, a delivery woman lost her life when a dump truck hit her e-bike and then left the scene in Herald Square, as detailed by law enforcement and an advocacy organization.
The unfortunate accident occurred on the morning of September 28, as the 50-year-old woman, riding a JOCO rental e-bike while making a delivery, was struck while traveling west on West 34th Street approaching Seventh Avenue. She was declared dead at the scene.
