Eagles appear to have shifted their position on the A.J. Brown trade.

Howie Roseman and AJ Brown’s Future with the Eagles

Howie Roseman seems to be in a different mindset at the NFL Combine this year.

Peter Schrager from ESPN reported that the Eagles’ general manager may be reconsidering his firm stance about AJ Brown. Just last season, the Eagles publicly stated they weren’t willing to trade him, despite Brown’s visible frustrations with his position on the team.

“There’s a lot of chatter among people here—whether in the hallways, bars, or restaurants. I think it’s important to note,” Schrager shared on “The Get Up.” “The vibe feels quite different compared to when Roseman emphatically declared at the trade deadline that trading AJ Brown was ‘absolutely out of the question.’

According to Schrager, Roseman’s demeanor appears more receptive to trade discussions while in Indianapolis, the NFL’s scouting combine location.

“In Indy, it now seems like he’s saying, ‘I wouldn’t turn down a solid offer.’ Howie tends to be open to talks this time of year,” he added.

Brown, on the other hand, hasn’t been shy about his feelings in Philadelphia. He’s made some enigmatic social media posts over the season and even had a few sideline disagreements with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

In a light-hearted moment on a podcast with Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, he joked about possibly being a Patriot one day.

Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie reportedly reached out to Brown concerning his social media expressions of discontent. They had a brief meeting before a game, where Brown agreed to tone down his complaints.

Schrager pointed out that there’s a financial hurdle in trading Brown. If the trade were to happen before June 1, the Eagles would face a hefty $40 million dead cap hit.

“Howie is known for closing deals—he’s quite remarkable at it. But he also prefers to add talent rather than let go of it,” Schrager concluded. “Trading AJ Brown would necessitate receiving significant value in return, which would also be a major financial hit.”

The 2026 season didn’t go well for the Eagles, as they were knocked out of playoff contention by the 49ers, just a year after their Super Bowl victory.

Since then, things have been rocky for the team, with several assistant coaches departing.
