The Philadelphia Eagles' regular season got off to a strong start, with the team posting a 10-1 record after the first 11 games. However, the team began to struggle on both ends late in the game and ended up making the playoffs with an 11-6 record.
The Eagles suffered a disappointing 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round of the playoffs. Despite leading Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance last season, head coach Nick Sirianni's job situation became a hot topic of conversation.
Sirianni reportedly met with the Eagles' owner in the days following the team's postseason exit and is expected to remain in his position into the 2024 season. However, the Eagles have decided not to retain first-year offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and will likely begin a search for a new offensive coordinator, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Johnson's departure news came shortly after the Eagles parted ways with defensive coordinator Sean Desai. The first-year coordinator was stripped of defensive play-calling duties late in the season.

Sirianni and the Eagles decided to hand over play-calling duties to the more experienced Matt Patricia. However, the unit continued to struggle, especially the pass defense. Patricia's contract with the Eagles is set to expire, and the former Detroit Lions head coach will likely pursue other opportunities, NFL Media reported.

Shane Steichen served as the Eagles' offensive coordinator during the 2021-22 season. Steichen helped build one of the NFL's best offenses in 2022. He left last offseason to take the head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles decided to promote Johnson from the quarterbacks coach role instead of hiring an outside candidate.

The Eagles' offense took a step back last season, failing to score more than 20 points in five of the team's last seven games.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts also regressed in a number of categories after an impressive 2022 season. Hurts' performance last season earned him a historic five-year, $255 million contract extension.

The Eagles' lackluster appearance in the wild-card round game was a microcosm of the team's late-season problems. It remains unclear whether Johnson can return to the Eagles in a different role.
