Eagles cut Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White without playing a snap for team

All-Pro linebacker and Super Bowl winner Devin White just hit the free agent market without playing a single game after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles.

White signed a one-year, $4 million contract with $3.5 million guaranteed this offseason, but the Eagles apparently didn't think he could play a role on the team despite his large contract.

The former Buccaneer was expected to serve as a starter, but injuries slowed him down and former Georgia star Nakobe Dean took over the starting role.

White has been inactive for all four games this season and was released after the team's bye week.

He missed Week 1 with an ankle injury, had healthy scrapes in Weeks 2 and 3, and missed Week 4 against the Buccaneers for personal reasons.

White was selected by LSU with the fifth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, one spot ahead of Daniel Jones.

He previously played alongside captain Lavonte David with the Buccaneers, forming a formidable linebacking core. White was the leading tackler on Tom Brady's 2020 Super Bowl team.

After his release, White posted a cryptic message on his social media.

“Your story is still being written and the best chapters are yet to come,” White wrote in a post as she was currently looking for a new home. “Believe that the future holds endless possibilities and that you have the power to transform them into something truly amazing.”

In his second message, the 26-year-old posted about being a clean slate for whoever his next team is.

“Every day is a new beginning, a fresh start to creating the life you've always imagined. Let go of the mistakes of the past and focus on the possibilities of today,” White said. “You have the power to shape your destiny with every choice you make. Believe that each new day presents an opportunity to start over and make remarkable progress.”

White appeared to have had issues with Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and was not interested in discussing his role coming off the bench when asked early in the season.

“You need to get it from. [Sirianni]” said White.

But Sirianni has a bigger problem, as the Eagles are 2-2 and far from being the Super Bowl contenders many thought they would be.

The Eagles will play the Browns on Sunday.
