Eagles’ Lane Johnson Calls for Improved Offense After Game Loss

Another member of the Philadelphia Eagles has spoken out about the team’s offensive struggles. Offensive lineman Lane Johnson expressed his concerns specifically about the run game following a heavy loss to the Giants. He noted that he wishes the Eagles’ play calling could be “less predictable.”

“It feels like it’s more complicated than it should be,” Johnson explained. “I think moving forward, we might need a bit more variety, perhaps focusing on the edges… [We] have to keep the defense guessing.”

Even with his frustrations, Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowler, made it clear that he doesn’t want to put the blame solely on Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Pattullo. “I’m with Kevin until the end. A lot of it comes down to execution,” Johnson stated. “We’ll review the tape to find what needs fixing, but ideally, we can be more efficient, unpredictable, and create some explosive plays.”

Running back Saquon Barkley, whose performance has dipped after an impressive 2024 season, said the issues lie more in the offense’s “mindset.” He remarked, “I think we really need to adopt an attitude of not being overly concerned about what others might do. That’s what I’m looking for.”

Overall, the Eagles’ rushing offense has taken a significant step back this season.

Philadelphia, last season, ranked second in the league for the most rushing yards allowed (184.1), but this year, they have improved significantly, allowing only 95.3 yards per game through six weeks, which is the seventh-fewest in the NFL.

Johnson’s comments followed a meeting reportedly involving Barkley, quarterback Jalen Hurts, and receiver AJ Brown to address offensive issues, although Brown has denied that any such discussions occurred.

Both Brown and fellow receiver DeVonta Smith have shown frustration with the offense during recent games, especially as the Eagles’ performance has dipped this season. After their loss on Thursday, the Eagles’ record stands at 4-2, marking the end of their undefeated streak in the first four weeks of the season.
