Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears Named Republican Governor Candidate
Richmond, Virginia – Winsome Earle-Sears, the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, has officially been named as the Republican candidate for governor. In an exclusive interview, she characterized herself as “a very traditional candidate” and expressed her intention to connect with voters from various political backgrounds.
Earle-Sears emphasized the importance of maintaining Virginia’s historic National Capitol under Republican control. She shared her personal journey and policy positions, which she believes resonate with the electorate. When asked about the role of governance amid current uncertainties, she remarked, “Isn’t safety the primary responsibility of political leaders?”
She elaborated, stating, “It’s about ensuring everyone is safe. We can’t discuss economic development, education, energy, or affordable housing without addressing safety first.”
At a recent event at Jackson Ward’s Hippodrome Theater in Richmond, Earle-Sears expressed her confidence in her mission to keep Richmond in Republican hands. She noted that part of Glen Youngkin’s successful 2021 strategy involved capturing votes from areas in southwestern Virginia, where voters felt aligned with President Trump’s message to the “forgotten man and woman.”
She pointed out that in some parts of the region, residents often feel more connected to neighboring states than to their own capital, and they notice politicians who only show up during election seasons.
Earle-Sears pledged that her first action as governor would be to establish a “second” governor’s office in the western part of Virginia, as she believes such initiatives need to be vocalized more in political discourse. “Everyone wants to be heard,” she stated, adding, “I promised I’m not one of those politicians.”
While she recognizes that people in areas like Washington, D.C., and its suburbs have the right to hear conservative viewpoints, she also aims to appeal to a broader audience. “I know I might look like someone who typically votes Democrat,” she said, “but I’m reaching out to all voters.” Her message is that regardless of background, success in America should be attainable for everyone.
Earle-Sears recounted her father’s journey to the U.S., recalling how they arrived in New York with very little. “I’m here in the former capital of the Confederacy, and I think America has changed,” she remarked.
She also issued a warning to her Democratic opponent, Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who is currently leading in the polls. Earle-Sears used a metaphor about cars on the road, suggesting Spanberger is focused on the wrong priorities.
In a recent event at Tucker High School, Spanberger reflected on the importance of the fight ahead, noting the quality education and opportunities available to students and families in Virginia.
State Senator Schuyler Vanvalkenburg described Spanberger as a “Henrico Hometown Hero,” underlining the community’s support for her campaign.
